The First Birthday Bash at the ‘Bowl

Well, since we sucked again and Brian summed up the night pretty well, I thought maybe I’d give ya a different take on this past week…

For the first time my birthday fell on race day, and I had invited some friends, most of whom have never been to the races before. Richie usually does well around my b-day although he’s never won – so I was hopin’ for a good show with the extra crowd in the house.

Yeah, that ended quick.

Before any of them got there and I had barely got settled in, Richie was in the backstretch wall early in his heat. Didn’t see it unfold, only heard my man say on the Danko-mic that the 01 and 6 were involved as well. Chris Correll was MIA so I knew the 66 wasn’t even at the track and it all just looked pretty dismal. But the boys got the 66 there in time for the feature, he started last, made the top 10, got called for spinnin the 01, sent to the rear and finished… I dunno, 15th or so. Pretty sucky if ya ask me…

But to my suprise, we had one of the more enjoyable times of the year. The family section was rockin’ like we won the show even though it was probably our worst finish of the year. I guess you can never get too down just like you should never be too high…

It became a night full of goin’ around the horn with your picks before each feature, trash talkin’ to each other about whose pick is doin’ better (only the 03LM hookin’ me up at the end), sharing some birthday chocolate chip pie with the whole section of the stands – even the Boy Pearl plopped himself down right next to me upon his arrival ready to join the fun – it was just a good time.

Brian eluded to the point racing taking effect, and I gotta tell ya, I thought this year was goin’ be pretty intense. Running for the points title is a long process – lots of highs and lows, frustrations and elations. But this week was a reminder that it’s not always gonna be your night. In fact, it could be 3 weeks before it is again, you just gotta ride it out. And while you’re waiting until it comes back around, you still need to enjoy yourself…

I think the family section virgins we brought just might be back. And to me, the more the better – especially on nights like this one. Even if it means more people to heckle my picks throughout the night….

I don’t go to the races to get all bent because we didn’t do great – I go to hang out with my peeps and enjoy myself no matter how we do. I hope there are crowds all along the bleachers that are having as much fun…

See ya next week
Sid
