“The Show” was a 9-episode reality series that follow 4 drivers during the 2019 season at Stafford Speedway: Keith Rocco, Mike Christopher Jr, Glen Reen and eventual SK Modified champion Ronnie Williams. Other drivers you’ll see in the series include Todd Owen, Cory DiMatteo, Marcello Rufrano and Michael Gervais Jr, plus various members of the drivers race teams.
“This was a very ambitious project for us, and it really was a lot of fun. My home track didn’t open in 2019 and I needed something to keep me going,” said executive producer & editor Sid DiMaggio. “We had a big crew in the shops and at the track. Stafford was a big help supplying us with their broadcast footage, which really allowed us to create more episodes than we planned.”
The series was filmed during the season and released the following off-season. “It was a lot of fun and we were able to craft some really good story lines. I learned a lot, but I don’t think I’d do it again without a proper budget, and I don’t think at the short track level the fundraising would be there to do it again.”
DiMaggio says things changed at Stafford pretty quickly since the series’ release. “It’s funny because we were releasing the episodes as the global pandemic hit, and it wasn’t soon after that Stafford changed the game with live streaming and their social media presence. In some ways this series became dated quickly because so much at that changes almost immediately after.” But DiMaggio thinks it still holds up. “I went back to my home track in 2020 for a majority of my video work, but I still watch The Show every now and then. It holds up pretty well. Proud of what my crew and I pulled off with limited resource and budget for this type of series”
